Another alternative for registering objects is through metadata extraction (or automatic metadata), available to users based on a specific permission.
In this way, Anjana connects directly to the source system where the data resides to discover its metadata and generate the corresponding structures in Anjana.
To do this, the user must provide the attributes that allow connection to the source, the organisational unit, and select the available structures they wish to register in Anjana:
Once this information has been entered and the option to create the objects is selected, a window appears where Anjana suggests a name for the import job, which the user can edit.
Upon confirmation, a link is displayed to the user to navigate to the import details from the creation form:
Further details about jobs can be found in the Jobs section.
Anjana is capable of retrieving metadata from different data technologies and platforms. For more information, consult the technical documentation for each version to see the available technologies, since Anjana Data has a roadmap that continuously adds integrations with new technologies.
Imported status
When an object has been imported using automatic metadata, it is placed in the ‘imported’ status (similar to ‘draft’ but with the possibility of having a PK attribute incomplete because it was not retrieved from the source system). In this status, it is possible to edit the name (“name” attribute) of the object in order to assign a logical name different from the one retrieved (which will be the physical name) from the environment where the structure exists.
In the case of a dataset, its name can be edited by first editing the names of its dataset_fields and then editing the dataset name itself.
Once the user saves the object for the first time from its form, the object moves to ‘draft’ status and the name becomes non-editable.
For automatic metadata to work correctly, the infrastructure, technology, zone, and path attributes must be configured in the template of the subtype to be imported using this functionality.
